K-9: Owen, 6-year-old German Shepherd, Died June 18, 2003

Handler: Maurice Wilson

    Owen was a member of the Sangamon County Rescue Squad K9 Team since birth due to the fact both of his parents are members. His training was in article search and is certified in Basic Area and Advanced Area S.A.R. and also has the Canine Good Citizen and Obedient Dog Achievement Awards. Owen loved to run, play, jump over almost anything, ride in the truck with his handler and eat.

    His handler is a charter member of the Rescue Squad K9 Team and works with Marco, Owens dad, as well as Owen. Maurice’s motivation comes from a personal experience of trying to get K9 assistance to search for a person who was lost. It took several hours as well as several calls to make the arrangements possible. The Sangamon County Rescue Squad K9 Team makes K9 assistance possible with just one call to 911.  The immediate response is not only with one dog but several.
